Editorial Process

This page explains how Everyday Shortlist researches and writes about everyday household products. Our single most important commitment: Everyday Shortlist is reader-supported through affiliate links, but those links never influence which products we recommend or how we describe them.

What We Cover—and What We Don’t

Everyday Shortlist focuses on practical products that ordinary households buy, use, and replace. Our guides cover categories like:

  • Home and cleaning supplies
  • Kitchen tools and small appliances
  • Tools and DIY essentials
  • Garden and outdoor gear
  • Travel and luggage
  • Personal tech and accessories
  • Kids and baby products
  • Fitness and sports gear
  • Personal care basics

We do not cover medical or health-monitoring devices (those are handled by our sister site, MediBriefer), nor do we cover pet products, coffee equipment, aquariums, off-grid power solutions, or planners and memory aids. Our aim is to help busy, everyday shoppers—not specialists or hobbyists—make sense of crowded product categories.

How We Research Products

Every guide on Everyday Shortlist is built on careful, plain-English research. We compare products by reading:

  • Manufacturer specifications and documented features
  • Compatibility information and published standards (such as CE, FCC, or UL listings when relevant)
  • Market positioning and how a product compares to direct competitors
  • Aggregate patterns in expert reviews and verified buyer feedback

We do not physically test, own, set up, install, or measure the products we cover. Our role is to make sense of the information available to any diligent consumer, not to present hands-on impressions. We believe this approach is honest, transparent, and helps readers make informed decisions without pretending to offer lab testing or personal trials we haven’t conducted.

How We Recommend Products

Our recommendations are shaped by real-world use cases. Instead of declaring a single “best” product, we match options to different buyer profiles and needs—whether you’re looking for something budget-friendly, a reliable mid-range pick, or a premium upgrade. We use relative price tiers ($/$$/$$$) because prices can change quickly, and we always prefer to recommend brand-and-model identifiable products over generic or anonymous listings.

Each guide narrows a crowded category to a practical shortlist, explaining what features matter, what’s worth paying for, and what’s safe to skip. Our goal is to save you time and help you buy with confidence, not to overwhelm you with endless options.

Affiliate Links and Editorial Independence

Everyday Shortlist earns a commission from qualifying purchases made through affiliate links, primarily via the Amazon Associates and eBay Partner Network programs. These commissions help keep the site running, but they never influence which products we recommend or how we describe them. Brands and manufacturers cannot pay for placement, inclusion, or favourable coverage—our guides are written for readers, not advertisers.
